Town Planning Solutions provides years of experience to help you navigate through the town planning and development environment to help you achieve your project.

The team is led by Mick who has has a wealth of knowledge to help you with your project.

With a Master of Town Planning and Bachelor of Environmental Design (both from UTAS) and twenty three years experience as a town planner and development manager within local government and twenty eight years experience within the development industries, his aim is to help make the planning process as easy and straight forward as possible.

While at the West Tamar Council (2007-2019), firstly as Municipal Planner and then Development Manager, Mick oversaw the development and implementation of two planning schemes. He guided the Council and the local community through a significant period in planning reform covering performance based planning schemes, regional land use strategies, regional planning provisions and interim planning scheme, and ultimately the development of the Tasmanian Planning Provisions.  He also represented the West Tamar through consultation processes with the local communities, developers and the development industry, government departments and statutory review agencies. Lastly, he did extensive work in consultation, review and implementation of the Legana Structure Plans, including their adaption for on-ground projects.

From 2009 to 2014, Mick was co-editor for the Northern Regional Planning Project .  Here he worked on the development of regional policy and planning provisions, consulting across the northern region Councils and range of government agencies, representation of the region in the statutory approval process and review of those outcomes to address implementation issues with the Northern Regional Land Use Strategy.

For over 20 years, Mick represented his employers as an expert witness and mediator at both the Resource Management and Planning Appeals Tribunal and Tasmanian Planning Commission. He has also been a member of the Planning Institute of Australia since 2000 and is currently a member of the State Committee of the Planning Institute of Australia. 

In 2017, Mick was convenor and MC for the PIA Tasmanian Planning Conference – Tasmania and the Great Small Cities of the World.

Since November 2019, Mick has been the President of the Tasmanian Division Committee of the Planning Institute of Australia.
